the sound of my own voice

This may come as a surprise to many of you but I hate hearing my own voice. I literally tense up into a tiny ball of embarrassment. I find doing the mp3 recordings extremely painful but it's something I'm going to have to get over.

What do you hate doing?

you're not alone matt... i think quite a few of us hate the way the silly recorders change our voices!!! (that's my rationalising, and i'm sticking to it :-)

but seriously, i've learned not to _hate_ my voice now... i don't like it... but i can put up with it without it being annoying and me falling over with embarrassment!

where-ever possible though, i use a computer synthesized voice... eg, for my voicemail :)

that's actually a cool idea. i might get a synthesized voice to read out a poem where appropriate...

I can still remember the first time I heard my voice recorded on a tape. It sounded like someone else. Less urbane. Too nasal.

You would think you might get used to it over time ... but it sounds so different from the inside.

Gav - Totally! In my head, I'm Barry White and on the tape I'm Norman Wisdom.

I hate arguing - I go red in the face and take it all too personally. Funny how your own voice never sounds like you think it does when you hear a recording of it. I always think I sound posher than I really am (!)

Neil - That might be a function of growing up with the BBC.

I have the same problem with arguing and find it best to treat like a sport (maybe judo).
